Hopefully 59 hours from now I will be taking off on my first of four flights on the way to Cape Town. Hurricane Irene gave me a little scare about leaving in time, but I think I am pretty good to go now. This will be the longest time I have ever spent on a plane trying to get somewhere; 20 hours and 50 minutes in air, totally 9,633 miles. Sixteen hours and 40 minutes of that time will be spent on the same aircraft...reallllllly looking forward to that. Kind of crazy that when I finally get to Cape Town there is really nothing in between me and Antarctica.
I'm just about done packing. Pretty proud of myself because I got it all into one reasonably sized bag and a small travel backpack. Tomorrow I am meeting my mom's friend who's from South Africa to get some last minute advice, Tuesday I have a doctor's appointment to get some prescriptions refilled, then all that's left is to actually leave. That 2 weeks went by pretty quickly!
