One Week Till Takeoff

Guess what folks? One week from right now I will be flying high somewhere above the Atlantic Ocean on my way to Africa! I don't really have much to update from last week, mostly because I haven't done anything since last week. Besides play with my nephew and go to Chicago for 4 days to visit some friends...oh, and watch Friday Night Lights which is what takes place when I'm not eating or sleeping.

But, I did prepay my rent for the next few months which is exciting! I'll be living in a building called Perspectives. I will have either 1 or 2 roommates, still unknown though who these very lucky people will be. Here is the link to a tour of the building.

They also sent me a list of events that are going on in the month of September. The first weekend I am there there is a festival on Saturday and Sunday called Franschoek Uncorked located in the Cape Winelands. Wine, food, art, music, and a luxury car exhibition - I think I'll like it! Also on the agenda for September are a hike up the Cape Peninsula, and the Two Oceans Whale Festival in Hermanus. It is known as the best land-based whale watching destination in the world. It's the same weekend as KU's homecoming, so when I am feeling a little saddened about not being with all my friends for one of the greatest weekends of the year, I'll just remind myself that I'm watching whales in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

You can watch them from the coast literally just a few meters away!

Well I'll end this post on that exciting note because now I am Googling Hermanus and whales. It's also keeping my mind off of the fact that my dad just told me there were 13 different types of venomous snakes in South Africa. Thanks, dad! Really wanted to know that a week before I leave. Black Mamba, anyone?
