I've been so bad at posting! I want to keep in order though, so I'll start at what I did October 7th-9th.
We arrived on Friday night after a two hour drive to our tents already set up and ready to go. We checked out the premises, including the Brutal Fruit Daisy Den for the girls. It was a fully equipped women's tent with toilets, showers, mirrors, straighteners, blowdryers, fruit, candy, magazines, and even all the OPI nail polish you could imagine to do your nails. It was a nice little get away from all the sweat and dirt at the rest of the festival.
We watched a few bands Friday night, then woke up early Saturday to head to the dam and lay out by the water. There were tons of people, and the atmosphere was awesome. It was refreshing to go to a festival where you didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for everything. Being eco-friendly, you bought one water bottle for R30 (about $4), and got free water from the filling station for the rest of the weekend. They had amazing food and drinks, all very reasonably priced, and not jacked up just because you were at an event.
On Saturday afternoon we watched Jeremy Loops, a South African artist and one man band who uses a loop machine to create his music. I had actually met him on the Thursday before when we were getting our hair cut at the salon on the first floor of my building. He told me to bring my friends and come to his show on the main stage on Saturday afternoon. I'm so glad we did! He was my favorite by far. After he performed solo, the rest of his band including a killer saxophone player and a rapper came on stage with him. Here is a link to a little bit about him:

Sunday we were tired, hot, and ready to go home. Not to mention most of the South Africans were in poor moods because the Springboks had lost the game earlier that morning to continue on in the Rugby World Cup (people here LOVE their rugby). After going back to the dam where the water was too cold to enjoy but laying out what too hot to enjoy, we found the short film tent which consisted of short movies and a bunch of HUGE pillows to lay on. It's where you could find all the tired people and we stayed until our ride arrived. I wish I had a room like this at all times:
Rocking the Daisies was a fun and memorable experience that I will never forget. It was nice to get a taste of some of the artists here in South Africa, as well as enjoy the beautiful countryside with good friends, good music, and as always - lots of laughs. I wish I could go back every year!
