Bye Bye Bigshoes

Two posts in one day. Go me. I really didn't want to go out of order in my experiences but I thought I should write this post on the actual day it was happening.

Today is my last day of my internship. I have been in Cape Town for two months on this exact day. Hard to believe.

My experience with Bigshoes has been great. Although it wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be, I met a great group of employees, learned a lot about the health care system in South Africa, and got the chance to lend a helping hand to a group of individuals that really needed it. The women I worked with were so sweet, and I'm so glad I got the chance to know all of them.

Although my work consisted of some odd things - like moving furniture and hanging curtains - I got to be a part of a group of people who are extremely passionate about what they do. They will be missed!

At my farewell breakfast. From left to right: Alex (Sister), Michelle (founder and pediatrician), Lindsay (medical officer), Lucille (social worker), Di (social worker), Yours Truly (intern), and Deven (CEO of all of Bigshoes) who came to visit from Jo'burg.
